In 2014 Leroy Merlin, a construction and decoration store chain decided to expand its offer with a website for giving and receiving construction tasks. However, instead of building a solution from scratch, the company decided to buy an existing system and move it to its servers. We were responsible for the complete migration of the website: from code verification before purchase to functional development and maintenance.

The first challenge was to transfer Oferia from the previous owner’s infrastructure to the infrastructure of Leroy Merlin. Despite incomplete documentation (we received information about the previous system through word of mouth), we had to recreate the environment of the last owner and transfer the database of 300 thousand users. The migration was also to be invisible to the end-user.  The reason was not to discourage the portal community from the improper or slow operation of the website during the transfer. After 3 months of intensive work, we entirely cut off the old technological environment and transferred the platform to Leroy Merlin servers. The already existing users didn’t experience the migration the hard way. The only change they noticed was a notification about the new owner of the site.
