A Digital Dilemma

In the heart of Europe’s vibrant consumer electronics market a leading electronics retailer, faced a challenge worthy of a digital giant. With an impressive network of over 560 stores across Poland, the company recognized that success in the digital age required more than just a vast physical footprint. Growing customer expectations, dynamic market shifts, and mounting technical issues began to cast a shadow over the company’s past achievements. The overloaded central database slowed down the system, hindering efficient sales and inventory management. The lack of integration between brick-and-mortar stores and the e-commerce platform led to operational inefficiencies and customer frustration. High software licensing costs for each individual store further burdened the company’s budget.

Embracing Transformation: The Integration Initiative

A retail giant faced a choice: succumb to the pressure of these challenges or take bold steps towards digital transformation. They chose the latter. A team of IT experts, in collaboration with external consultants, devised a comprehensive plan to integrate physical stores and online channels.

03.

MuleESB Implementation

The first step was to implement a modern data bus based on MuleSoft ESB and MongoDB. This solution enabled seamless and secure information exchange between various systems, ensuring data consistency and eliminating errors caused by manual data entry.

Next, a dedicated application for managing prices and product availability was created, running on a Kubernetes cluster. With this solution, information about prices and product availability was updated in real-time across all stores, both physical and online. Customers could finally enjoy full access to up-to-date information, regardless of whether they were shopping online or visiting a physical store.

04.

The Outcomes

The results of the transformation were impressive. The system began to operate with unprecedented speed and efficiency. Store employees were freed from tedious and time-consuming tasks, such as manually checking inventory levels, allowing them to focus on customer service. Software licensing costs dropped significantly, and customer satisfaction increased.
